SIAST Strike News
10 SEPT 2011 - SASKATCHEWAN

SIAST Picket SignsThe Saskatchewan Democratic Action Party received many signatures & much petition support from striking SIAST workers during their early September 2011 strike action. The Petition for Registration is going well and on track to establish the SDAP for future Elections. Other recently striking workers, including health care workers, have also supported the SDAP petition for registration in the last few months.

The Saskatchewan Democratic Action Party presented striking SIAST workers with the SDAP's promised Wage Parity Legislation. An SDAP government promises to pass new Legislation that would see Saskatchewan Workers guaranteed Wage Parity by Law - wages equal to the best wages found in other provinces in their area of work and professions. For example, if SAIT/NAIT (Alberta's Institutes of Technology) increased their employees wages 20% above SIAST wages, SIAST would be responsible by law to match those wages at the time of implementation. Tax Incentives for Saskatchewan businesses will offset any salary increases employers are responsible to implement.

Saskatchewan citizen wages are chronically 20% behind the rest of Canada. Over decades of time this accumulates into massive personal income losses. The two parties currently forming Saskatchewan's Government use excuses such as Cost of Living or Budget Miscalculations to justify fighting Saskatchewan workers' request for Wage Parity with fellow Canadians.

The SDAP has been listening to Labour Leaders in the SFL, SGEU and Unions representing Teachers, Healthcare and worker rights. This has resulted in the SDAP Wage Parity Legislation guarantee.

Because the SDAP is promising Accountability Legislation that states:

Politicians who do not keep their promises within one year of Election are Automatically Recalled

voters for the SDAP can be sure this will not result in broken promises like the 1992-93 "NDP Available Hours Legislation" broken promise or the 2007 "SaskParty Education Tax Cut" broken promise. Broken promises by the two parties in Saskatchewan's Legislature have cost Saskatchewan citizens hundreds of millions of dollars in wages and income. Under SDAP Accountability Legislation, both of the current parties in Saskatchewan's Legislature would have been Automatically Recalled when they failed to keep their "Available Hours" and "Education Tax Cut" promises within one year of the election.

All SDAP programs & promises are fully Costed, Affordable, and will not result in any additional taxes for Saskatchewan citizens or business. There are several ways to achieve Wage Parity for Saskatchewan workers; the SDAP program will result in the greatest savings for Saskatchewan people and generate the greatest revenues for the province.
